A detective game, created in the form of a visual novel and featuring very non-linear gameplay. Expelled! was created by the authors of Overboard!. We play as a schoolgirl named Verity Amersham, trying to prove her innocence in the case of the attempted murder of her prefect, leading to her expulsion. The main role is played by the voice actress Amelia Tyler (narrator from Baldur's Gate 3).
Expelled! is a visual novel type of game, with an additional detective twist. The game is similar to thematically and genre-related A Highland Song.
Expelled! takes us back to the year 1922. The game takes place at a girls' boarding school run by Miss Mulligatawney. When her prefect is pushed out of a window, the main character named Verity Amersham (she is voiced by Amelia Tyler, known for her role as the narrator in Baldur's Gate 3) is blamed for the attempted murder.
The game gives us one day of in-game time to discover the identity of the real perpetrator. Or to find someone to blame. All of this so that Verity could avoid being expelled from school. The means by which we achieve our intended goal (honestly or quite the opposite) depends solely on us.
Expelled! was designed in such a way that the game could be completed within two to three quarters of an hour. Since our actions and the choices we make largely shape the course of the story and its ending, we can spend much more time with it (especially if we want to achieve the most favorable ending).
As we move around the school, talking to characters, sneaking around and trying to learn their secrets (both the teachers and students have secrets), we have to keep our finger on the pulse as the clock counting down to Verity's expulsion is constantly ticking.
Individual characters move and act independently, and have individual personalities and attitudes towards the protagonist (some are friendly, while others will do everything to get rid of her). Additionally, they what they managed to see or hear. In some cases, this can significantly complicate our lives (for example, if we get caught stealing).
A single playthrough is not enough to learn everything and check all possible leads. Verity can act according to moral principles or, on the contrary, break them for her own benefit. The heroine can also try not only to avoid being expelled from school, but also to use the whole mess to her own advantage and gain a prestigious position. All this makes each subsequent game different from the others.
The graphics of Expelled! are maintained in a cartoonish style. The game is set to the accompaniment of a jazz soundtrack. It features songs by Louis Armstrong, Bessie Smith, George Gershwin, and Paul Whiteman, among others.

Another solid story-driven adventure from inkle
Digital Spy: 4 / 5 by Jess Lee
Expelled! follows a similar blueprint to Overboard!, but ambition in its narrative design helps the game to feel rewarding in a different way. There's more to the story than trying to clear Verity's name. How Verity develops as a character across several playthroughs is the reason why Inkle's latest is able to stand out on its own.
Siliconera: 8 / 10 by Jenni Lada
Expelled is a wicked good time, with each playthrough of the game building on the one before it.
