Release Date: November 12, 2024
A small game developed as a bonus to the collector's version of Farming Simulator 25 and also sold separately. Farming Simulator: 16-Bit Edition is an attempt to show how the popular farming series could look like during the era of 16-bit devices. The game was designed in such a way to include limitations of the famous Mega Drive console.
Farming Simulator: 16-Bit Edition was developed as a kind of mini-game added to the collector's edition of Farming Simulator 25, but over time it was also made available as a separate title. Giants Software studio attempted to imagine their own series of farming simulators in the 16-bit era - as a game released in 1989 for the Mega Drive console.
In Farming Simulator: 16-Bit Edition events are viewed in an isometric view, much like in the Farming Simulator series.
During the game, we are therefore managing our own farm on one of three relatively small maps - Greenwood, Eldham Fields, and Willowdale. Our main activities include farming, sowing, and also harvesting crops. We don't do all of this manually and we can use a range of machines, among which tractors and combines are the main ones.
All the cash accumulated as we progress can be used for the expansion of the farm, the purchase of new agricultural machinery and the improvement of those already owned, as well as unlocking access to new locations.
The graphic design of Farming Simulator: 16-Bit Edition is maintained in a pixel art style straight from the 16-bit era. Interestingly, the vehicles and machines were created using three-dimensional models from Farming Simulator 25, which were appropriately simplified. Technological limitations forced the creators to divide the map into three smaller locations, as well as reduce the number of vehicles simultaneously present on the map and introduce a garage where they can be stored.
The soundtrack in the game was composed by Chris Hulsbeck.
