Fated: The Silent Oath is an episodic action adventure game for PS4 and PC, set in the mythical world of the legendary Vikings. It was developed by Frima, an experienced Canadian studio which, however, hasn’t had any spectacular successes yet—the players mostly know it for Zombie Tycoon, a strategy games series.
Plot
The game’s plot was created by Jill Murray, a writer for the Assassin’s Creed series, and is set in a world of Vikings, designed with VR headsets in mind. Fated: The Silent Oath focuses on a certain family that faces Ragnarok, which is the Nordic equivalent of the end of days. In the game, we assume the role of the father of this family who tries to shield his loved ones from the wrath of gods in the times of trouble, experiencing a series of incredible adventures and learning many new thing, both about his family and himself.
Mechanics
Gameplay-wise, Fated: The Silent Oath does not significantly deviate from the standards of contemporary action adventure games. While playing, we mainly deal with explorations, having conversations, and solving various logic puzzles, although the title is not devoid of arcade sequences.
The developers’ goal, however, was not to create an ordinary adventure game but to create a suggestive world that can enthrall players and trigger their emotions. For that reason, Fated: The Silent Oath is full of emotions, putting a great emphasis on such feelings as bravery, love, sacrifice, comion, despair, or joy. This is further amplified by showing the events from the first-person perspective and adjusting the game to work with virtual reality headsets, which significantly increases the immersion of the player into the game world and the heroes of the story.
Technical aspects
Fated: The Silent Oath for PS4 and PC is powered by a modern graphics engine, namely Unreal Engine 4, that s such VR headsets as Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, and PlayStation VR. Visually, the title distinguishes with a fully three-dimensional graphics made in a colorful, cartoonish style of which not even a contemporary animated movie would be ashamed.
