Flashback is a remake of a classic platform game in the climates of science fiction. The main character is Conrad B. Hart - agent of the Galaxy Bureau of Investigation trying to regain memory and stop the invasion of aliens. The game is the responsibility of VectorCell studio known from the horror movie Amy.
Flashback is a remake of a platform game by Delphine Software International from 1992, resurrected by Ubisoft and released through digital distribution. The French company gave the task of remaking the game to a small game studio VectorCell.
The story takes players into a distant future, and is set on Tytan – the biggest moon of Saturn. The main protagonist of Flashback is Conrad B. Hart – an agent of Galaxia Bureau of Investigation – who accidently discovers a plot by mysterious race of aliens against all life on the Earth. At the very beginning, the hero gets abducted by aliens who erase his memory. Fortunately, he had managed to send the most essential information about the plot to his friend in New Washington. Brainwashed, Hart escapes his captors – however, the aliens do not know that the agent created a backup version of his discoveries and saved it in a holocube.
Fashback stays true to its predecessor not only when it comes to story, but also all characteristic gameplay features, like maneuvering across adroitly located platforms or solving simple logic puzzles. The biggest change touched the combat system – in the remake Hart can shoot at any direction, thus being able to hit not only enemies who are in front of him. The authors also followed the modern trend of implementing a character progression system. Throughout the game you earn experience points and improve Conrad in three different categories.
The game has neat visuals – graphic artists prepared all locations in a way that retains slightly sterile atmosphere of the original. They also created a lot of cut scenes based on the original ones, as well as whole lot of dialogues between Hart and NPC’s.
