Frankenstein: Beyond the Time is a VR adventure game from The Dust studio in Wroclaw, where we visit the mysterious Victorian villa of the famous Dr. Frankenstein. The game is strongly inspired by Mary Shelley's novel published over 200 years ago.
Frankenstein: Beyond the Time is a FPP adventure game with elements of psychological horror. The main character and the script are inspired by the novel Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, but the devs point out that they tell their own story. The game requires VR goggles and was developed by the Polish studio The Dust.
The story takes us to the Victorian estate of Dr. Frankenstein, where all the objects remained untouched after his death. By exploring the environment, we learn about his inventions and read his notes, leading us to discovering the doctor's greatest mystery - the way to control time.
Our task is to break out of the time loop triggered by the Doctor's mysterious artifact. Exiting it is possible after solving logic puzzles based on the concept of hidden objects; failure makes all objects return to their place. Finding out how to use a particular item can be quite complicated, as they can be combined with each other in a crafting system. The devs have taken care of the interactivity of thousands of objects; some of them triggering optional monologues that add depth to the story.
The game also features some combat sequences and a boss battle.
The devs took care to reproduce the details as accurately as possible. Great importance in building the atmosphere was attached to a system of variable weather affecting dynamic lighting and reflections. The game also features an original soundtrack. It will take at least 4 hours to complete the game.
