A two-dimensional shoot ‘em up arcade game developed by the 17-bit studio. In GALAK-Z, we assume the role of a space fighter pilot who has to face enemies armed to the teeth and hostile environmental conditions. Although the general gameplay premise isn’t really different from the genre’s standards, the developers introduced several innovations.
GALAK-Z is a two-dimensional arcade shoot ‘em up shooter for PC, PS4 and PSV. Initially, the game was developed with PlayStation Vita and PlayStation 4 in mind and then was ported to PC, as well. The title was developed by 17-bit, a studio well-known for its strategy game entitled Skulls of the Shogun.
In GALAK-Z, we assume the role of a space fighter pilot who has to face hundreds of enemies armed to the teeth in hostile conditions. Deg the available ships, levels and characters that we choose at the beginning of the game, the developers drew inspiration from the classics of anime and science fiction TV series from the ‘70s and ‘80s.
The basic gameplay model of the PC, PS4 and PSV version isn’t very different from the one of thousands of other games in the genre, but the developers introduced some innovations that change the way the game goes. The ship we flight is controlled with two analog sticks – this is how we set the direction in which we move and shoot. The remaining buttons launch additional options such as special attacks. The game world is a vast and open level where we can find, among other things, smaller and bigger asteroids that have their own cave systems that let us hide from enemy fire.
The physics engine is designed to faithfully recreate laws of the space vacuum. Another notable aspects is the enemy AI. The developers used the solutions of Cyntient AI, an American company that specializes in programming artificial intelligence. Thanks to this, our opponents are not only moving targets that blind shoot in our general direction – they are able to cooperate, encircle us, withdraw, counterattack, and apply other advanced tactics.
GALAK-Z for PC, PS4 and PSV offers colorful, cartoonish graphics, while our struggle is accompanied by an intensive soundtrack.
