Release Date: January 31, 1998
A humorous 3D platformer, a continuation of GEX from 1996. In the game, we again direct the actions of the title geckon, who receives an offer of cooperation from government agents. Our hero's mission is to travel through different worlds, inspired by films and TV series, and to defeat the former Reza antagonist once again.
Originally released on the PlayStation in 1998, the game is only available in digital form as part of the PSOne Classics service.
GEX 3D: Enter the Gecko is a humorous 3D platformer and a continuation of the 1996 GEX. Both games were created by the Californian studio Crystal Dynamics - creators of such games as Mad Dog McCree, Pandemonium! and Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain.
In GEX 3D: Enter the Gecko, we play as the titular lizard, who spends most of his free time in front of the TV. One day, the TV screen begins to flash and the face of Rez, the former antagonist, whom our protagonist defeated in the first installment of the series, appears in it. A moment later, two government agents appear at Gex's office with a proposal. He has to move back into the world of TV programs and face Rez once again. Tempted by a generous wage, Gex undertakes the task.
During the game we reach seven different lands, inspired by such films as Looney Tunes, Gilligan's Island, Friday the 13th and Star Wars. Our task is to collect a certain amount of collectibles, which will allow the hero to move to the next world. In order to achieve this goal, Gex has to face a multitude of opponents, including dangerous pumpkins, scorpions and ninja warriors. During the fights, our hero makes use of his own tail, but some enemies will require you to use elements of the environment and the ability to solve simple logical puzzles.
Compared to the first game, GEX 3D: Enter the Gecko was done in 3D, and the action of the game is observed from the third person perspective, with a camera placed just behind the protagonist's back. The audio-visual setting is decent for its times - the levels are very vivid and colorful, and the music perfectly matches the situation we observe on the screen. The fun is enriched by numerous bonus locations, as well as the main character's funny comments parodying lines from cult action films and competitive video games.
