A two-dimensional fighting game developed by Japanese studio Arc System Works. The title is an upgraded and enriched version of Guilty Gear Xrd: Revelator. The action of the game takes place in year 2187, when a female warrior named Ramlethal, who leads creatures called Valentine, declares war against humanity.
Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2 is a fighting game released on PC, PS4 and PS3. It was developed by Japanese studio Arc System Works, the creators of all previous installments in the series. The title is an improved and enriched version of Guilty Gear Xrd: Revelator that was released in 2016.
The story of the game is similar to the one present in Guilty Gear Xrd: Revelator. Once again, the action takes place in the year 2187 and the plot starts when a female warrior named Ramlethal, who leads creatures called Valentine, declares war against humanity.
The campaign of the game consists of separate chapters focused on specific characters. The scenes between battles are presented in form known from visual novels. In comparison to the previous version, Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2 expands the story by offering a few new story episodes focused on Jam Kuradoberi, Raven, Kum Haehyun, Dizzy and two new characters – Baiken and Answer.
The gameplay mechanics of Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2 for PC, PS4 and PS3 hasn’t changed much neither. It is a classic fighting game focused on duels between characters that have unique special attacks and combos. The graphics are three-dimensional, but the gameplay takes place in two dimensions.
There are some changes and novelties in the game. Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2 offers two additional characters – female samurai Baiken and a man named Answer, who is known as a “business ninja”. All previously available warriors received new combat techniques and smaller changes that impact the game balance.
Lone players can try the story campaign, single matches, arcade mode or watch artworks and other bonuses unlocked during the game. The title also offers local and online multiplayer. The latter offers ranking matches and constantly updated online highscores.
The game for PC, PS4 and PS3 is powered by Unreal Engine 3. The graphics were developed in such way that they imitate two-dimensional animated movies. The outcome is very convincing.
It is worth adding that Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2 is available as a stand-alone product, but the owners of Guilty Gear Xrd: Revelator can buy the new content as a cheap DLC expansion.
