Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus R, released on PS2, PSP, Wii, X360, PS3, PSV, PC and Switch, is the next installment of the well-known series of two-dimensional fighting games created by Arc System Works. The title is a direct port of Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus, enriched with improvements balancing the gameplay and strength of individual warriors. Accent Core Plus is an extended version of Guilty Gear XX Accent Core, which appeared on Wii and PlayStation 2 in 2007.
The basics of the gameplay in Guilty Gear are easy to master, even for those who have not played fighting games before. It is worth noting, however, that achieving the championship may take many months of hard work. Each of the many different characters has a wealth of movements and special attacks. Their execution often requires not only memorizing complex combinations of buttons but also reflex, because actions can be easily interrupted or countered by the opponent.
We can fight against another person and the opponents controlled by the AI. The basic mode is the standard Arcade, in which we participate in a series of duels with subsequent characters, learning their motivation and plot prepared by the developers. However, the biggest novelty is the story mode introduced in Accent Core Plus.
Players can also try the VS U mode, where we choose our opponent controlled by AI, set the rules and number of fights, as well as two endurance modes: M.O.M and Survival. In the first one, players collect medals/points, which they receive for performing successful attacks. In the second mode, we fight against the endless wave of increasingly stronger and more demanding opponents with just one health bar - the more we beat our opponents up and the longer we stay alive, the better our final result will be. Survival mode has been improved compared to the previous version by introducing the possibility of gaining experience levels. Finally, it is worth mentioning the training option, thanks to which we can test the individual characters. There, we can choose the arena but also the strength and behavior of the opponent.
The graphics design of Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus R consists of hand-drawn and animated two-dimensional sprites of characters - a staple of Arc System Works. Also noteworthy is the soundtrack, which includes heavy metal and rock songs, referring to classical hits of these genres of music.
