The game’s story is set in 2029 – the world now belongs to big corporations that intend to expand their sphere of influence by hook or by crook. This is why some companies decide to hire hackers and mercenaries – masters of their craft tasked with stealth infiltration of the business opponents’ headquarters and completing various, yet not entirely legal, assignments.
Hacktag for PC stands out with its original gameplay mechanics designed for an asymmetric cooperative multiplayer mode – one player actively participates in carrying out the mission, while their partner is helping by hacking numerous devices and elements of the environment. It is up to the latter player to deactivate the alarm systems, as well as both open and shut the doors. Simultaneously, the infiltrating player traverses the generated map trying to avoid his adversaries and stay out of their radar. As the story progresses, both characters acquire experience points that unlock access to new abilities, both those active and ive ones.
Interestingly enough, nearly all the in-game content is generated procedurally – this regards the level design and the selection of 3 available types of missions that the main protagonists get from their corporate employers. The challenges also pose an additional treat. One should that his actions are being continuously monitored by the in-game scoring system. Players can share their scores through online rankings.

Hacktag delivers solid 3D visuals, also because of the top-down perspective implemented into the game. Graphics feature a somewhat comic book-like aesthetic, with a gold filter that pleases one’s eye and contrasts with the blue setting of the hacking companion’s screen.
