Mechanics

The production by Massive Damage is an unusual, 2D strategy with RPG elements, inspired by such titles as FTL: Faster Than Light. You play as a commander in charge of the whole complex, space ships, and the crew working on the station. The game’s main asset consists in exploring the randomly-generated galaxy, searching for resources that can be used for developing your base, and discovering new technologies. Setting off on such journeys means great danger, as aliens can attack you at any moment.

Combat takes place not only in space where ships face other ships, but also on the surface of planets on which your crew directly fights enemies. In both cases, combat is turn-based and during each round you choose correct actions from the drop-down menu. Interestingly, your abilities are influenced by the ship’s crew. Each character is different and has own personality and abilities. All of this is complemented with a diplomacy system.

Game modes

Gameplay in Halcyon 6: Starbase Commander is meant for single-player only. The game features an interesting system which generates different questions on the basis of your previous actions. This means that another missions are affected by e.g. the level of the base’s development, traits of officers, and diplomatic aspects.

Technical aspects
