Halls of Torment is an arena survival game combining roguelikes, action RPGs and bullet hell shooters, reminiscent of Soulstone Survivors. It was developed by indie studio Chasing Carrots.
Halls of Torment is set in a dark fantasy universe. We play as an adventurer descending into the titular halls of torment to face the dangers lurking within and confront their rulers.
Halls of Torment makes use of the isometric perspective. There's a number of playable characters to choose from, each with differing playstyles. The game proper begins after choosing one of them. The gameplay revolves around battling on various arenas. The player must fight off waves of hellish creatures, trying to survive until the end and defeat one of the lords, who serve as bosses. Combat is extremely dynamic, requiring constant movement, avoiding enemy attacks and switching up our skills. Depending on which skills we choose, we'll fight enemies in melee combat, from a distance, with magic, the environment or traps.
Apart from dispatching foes we must also complete objectives. In-between encounters we'll visit a camp where we can prepare for further combat. Progresing through the game unlocks better gear and develops our characters, letting us unlock new skills, upgrade already owned ones and gain various perks. Overtime our character roster expands as well.
The visuals of Halls of Torment are fairly simple, reminiscent of RPGs and hack'n'slashes from the late 1990s. The game's dark, grim artstyle resembles the first Diablo.

Game Ratings for Halls of Torment Video Game.
The Jimquisition: 8.5 / 10 by James Stephanie Sterling
Halls of Torment is more than simply Vampire Survivors wearing Diablo’s clothes. It’s a clever and engrossing Survive ‘em Up that uses RPG trappings to add a ton of versatility and rewarding complexity to what would still be a fun game without it. There’s a pile of quirky character classes and a massive number of ways to build them during each run, just a big pile of content and not a shred of it feels like padding.

If I could play this thing on a beige CRT while Rob Zombie screamed in my ears I wouldn't know it wasn't 1999. Actually, wait, I can do that. If anyone needs me, tell them I'm busy for the next… foreseeable future.
