Heartworm

A survival horror game, inspired by the oldest entries from the Resident Evil, Silent Hill and Fatal Frame series. In Heartworm we play as Sam who ventures into a haunted house in the mountains to her dead grandfather. The protagonist must deal with hostile ghosts and fights them using the camera.

Heartworm is a survival horror inspired by the genre's classics from the second half of the 1990s, led by the first parts of the Dino Crisis series. The development of this game was led by independent developer Vincent Adinolfi.

Gameplay

Heartworm allows us to choose whether we want to watch the action from predefined, "cinematic" shots, or if we prefer to observe the events over the protagonist's shoulder (TPP).

Combat, equipment and puzzles

The gameplay is based on the pillars established by Capcom and Konami classic hits. While exploring the gloomy residence, we have to face opponents in the form of ghosts, which we eliminate by using the flash lamp of the main character's camera (which in turn may evoke associations with the Fatal Frame series).

Additionally, we collect equipment along the way. We are talking about both useful resources, led by the camera film (serving as a kind of "ammunition"), and about objects used by us to solve encountered environmental puzzles.

Completing the game is a task for about 4-6 hours.

Story

The main character of the game is Sam, who can't come to with the death of her beloved grandfather. Obsessed with making with him, the protagonist ends up in a house in the mountains, where supernatural phenomena are allegedly taking place. Given that this place is indeed haunted, staying there quickly turns into a real nightmare for our character.

Graphics

The graphic design of Heartworm is maintained in a retro style. The game allows a choice between full pixel graphics reminiscent of the first PlayStation era, and a slightly more modern (though still old-school and blocky) version played in higher resolution.
