HeatWave is a sandbox simulator of the guerrilla squad leader, whose action takes place in Alaska in 2080 - after the climatic disaster. The game was developed by Polish studio Perimeter Games.
HeatWave is a futuristic, sandbox strategy game with elements of survival, in which we are leading a unit trying to survive in the world after the climate disaster that caused various conflicts and crises. The game was prepared by the Perimeter Games studio in Katowice.
HeatWave takes place in 2080, in Alaska, but it is not a place we know from geography books - it has changed beyond recognition by the global warming. As a result of the climate catastrophe, the world has become an extremely unpleasant place - due to the waves of migration, the US Government has decided to abandon the most distant states, such as Alaska. Russia decided to take advantage of this situation by sending its troops to the area. The player leads the guerrilla squad who try to survive and resist the invaders.
In HeatWave, the action is usually observed from the isometric perspective. The main task of the player is to recruit and then lead a guerrilla squad - to provide survival and defeat the invaders. In order to do this, we need to take various strategic decisions.
HeatWave is focused on exploring the environment and obtaining items and resources that we can use. We can also trade with nearby settlers, and perform tasks that will make them more friendly to us (thanks to this, for example, they will agree to our unit or help during the battles). Diplomacy and relations with communities (including competitive guerrilla units) also play an important role.
During the game, we make a variety of storyline choices, which influence the story.
The fight is turn-based, and what matters most is the right tactics. We often have to use guerrilla tactics, such as setting up traps, sabotage, attacking or psychological warfare (we can incite the people of Alaska against the invaders).
In HeatWave we can only play alone. The core of the game is the single player mode.
HeatWave has good, 3D graphics. In of graphics, the game of the Katowice developer does not stand out from the crowd, but it competently reflects the characteristic atmosphere of the world presented.
