Mechanics

As mentioned above, Hue for PC, PS4 and etc. is a combination of platformer and logic games. Moreover, the structure of this production is typical to the “metroidvania” genre — when traversing vast locations, we encounter blocked paths to which we can come back after the protagonist has gained required skills. While playing, the player travels single-colored maps, omitting numerous obstacles and solving logic puzzles. The latter are based on manipulating colors — having found fragments of his mother’s research log, the protagonist can change background color with a special device. In this way, for example, making a green obstacle disappear in a green background, he can neutralize traps that lie in wait for him and also unlock the way to previously unavailable places. The player makes a choice regarding the color needed at a given moment from a palette presented in the form of a circular menu. Having launched it, the time slows down, letting us choose the needed color without any rush.

Technical aspects

Hue was released for PC, PS4 and etc., among other platforms. Graphics-wise, versions for all platforms are identical, the PlayStation Vita being the only exception — the game runs at a lower resolution and offers less details on the handheld console. The soundtrack features over thirty songs. The title has built-in facilities for colorblind people. Once enabled, they assign a unique symbol to every color.
