Players get to track animals representing 37 different species, including male and female predators, aquatic birds, as well as both big and small game inhabiting the flat lands.

Gameplay boils down to hunting over 37 species of animals available in the game. Among these, there are predatory toms and dams, aquatic birds, as well as representatives of both big and small game inhabiting the flatlands. Since certain species’ occurrence depends on their natural habitat, a player has to travel to one of 12 hunting regions available in the game. Players get to explore Canadian boreal forests in Alberta Province, mountains of Colorado, Alps, and French oak forests.
During the game, one can utilize a wide arsenal and various pieces of gear. The former one includes not only firearms (e.g. Browning® and Winchester® carbines) but also bows and crossbows. Among almost 50 pieces of gear, there are various lures, reconnaissance drones, and wind direction indicating powders. Additionally, the gameplay is significantly affected by both changing weather conditions and the day and night cycle. Tracking a game requires players to look around toilsomely in hopes to find the trail left by animals.
Even though sneaking up on the prey can prove itself to be effective, it is much more efficient to use the hunting boxes and take a shot from a safe distance. Nonetheless, one should about a special scoring system that tracks all the player’s actions – after a hunt is over, one receives the results on the gunshot distance, gender and weight of the animal he shot, and also what internal organs did the bullet penetrate.
The PC, PS4 and XONE release of Hunting Simulator offers a wide range of game modes. The basic one is the campaign mode comprising of over a hundred and eleven diverse tasks. Apart from that, players who prefer to experience a game alone can practice their skills on a virtual shooting range as well as hunt without any limitations in the free hunt mode. In addition, the developers prepared a cooperative multiplayer mode in which up to four players can hunt together.
Hunting Simulator is based on the Unreal Engine 4 featuring high-quality visuals. Another element worth noticing is the rich vegetation and detailed animal models. To top it all off, the players are bound to appreciate the sound layer of the game, which ensures great immersion with its realistic sounds of nature.
