A remake of the post-apocalyptic MMO starring zombies – Infestation: Survivor Stories – developed by Hammerpoint Interactive, creators of the original game.
Infestation: New Beginnings for PC is a spin-off to a postapocalyptic MMO game developed by Hammerpoint Interactive studio. The original, known as WarZ, was infamous due to utilizing not entirely genuine information and materials for its promotion. It was also accused of plagiarizing DayZ – a popular modification of Arma II, and a dispute with creators of the film World War Z, which made it necessary to change the game title added insult to injury. All of this caused that the final result achieved in the game was far from the earlier concept of developers. New version of Infestation for PC is therefore an attempt to create the game from a scratch according to its originally planned form.
Action takes place 10 years after events depicted in the predecessor, and is set on a 64 km square area modeled on the south-eastern regions of the United States. Epidemic that changed most of the citizens into living dead is in full swing, and gamers play the part of survivors who hunt zombies in order to obtain stem cells to produce an antidote to the deadly virus.
After creating our character we explore surrounding areas, taking on, alone or in cooperation with other players, a variety of missions consisting largely in killing a certain number of mutants, or finding a specific item. During the game, we must make sure we have in our equipment not only ammunition and weapons, but also food supplies, medicines and other items that help us to survive.
Infestation: New Beginnings for PC runs in the engine of WarZ. Developers, however, introduced a number of changes into the game mechanics: from remodeling the entire process of character creation and development, and changing the way XP is acquired and skills are bought, through tweaks of crafting system, to elements of particular missions, such as cars that now may need repairs. Access to the whole gear was allowed only in a safe area and a limited by a number of available slots. Gameplay was made more difficult also by eliminating a crosshair in a TPP perspective as well as lowering a frequency of firearms deployments, making guns extremely rare and valuable objects, especially that we are given an opportunity to modify them.
Although New Beginnings for PC is a fully independent production that requires creating a separate , access to the game was granted for free to all holders of the first Infestation. s known from the predecessor were removed from the game, as well as the store offering individual items. Instead, a system for exchange of goods and trade between players was created.
