Mechanics

The players take on the roles of the station's inhabitants, who have awakened from hibernation. Their task is to explore the abandoned parts of the station and complete various quests (main and side ones), mostly consisting of fighting AI-controlled enemies. The combat takes place in real time, so its outcome depends on choosing the right tactic and properly utilizing your abilities. Your character's performance is also affected by many external factors, such as hunger, exposure, fatigue, sustained injuries, low oxygen, etc. Eliminating the negative effects requires the right equipment. When you die, you lose all your items and your character also suffers an additional penalty. Moreover, each death can (but doesn't have to be) permanent, which means you have to start all over.

Technical aspects

The 3D visuals of InSomnia are very detailed. The game's style resembles such role-playing games as Fallout games. The setting and soundtrack help build a grim, mysterious atmosphere of the production.
