Jamestown: Legend of the Lost Colony is a classic scrolling shooter, in which we take control of the flying vehicle and eliminate a host of enemies by watching individual events from a bird's eye view. The production was developed in an old-fashioned style by an independent Final Form Games studio and is distributed through digital distribution services.
The story tells an alternative story of the 17th century. Planet Mars was colonized by people, and the Spanish and British compete for its acquisition. Both nations have fierce battles with each other, in which the indigenous Martians also get involved. This results in a conflict on a massive scale, in which three parties to the conflict are involved, characterised by a different set of troops. Of course, the plot is only a pretext for the game itself and does not really play a very important role, but the very fact of moving the action to the past is intriguing - shooters of this type are usually characterized by the presence of a futuristic world.
The game is not too complicated and is based on the rules well known to the fans of the genre. We have control of a flying vehicle that can shoot in different ways - apart from concentrated continuous fire, we have, for example, missiles scattered over a larger area. The action is observed from a bird's eye view, and the camera constantly directs the player in the direction in which he has to go. However, it is possible to manoeuvre freely within the screen, which helps to avoid attacks from enemies.
Although we can finish the whole campaign alone, the game really develops its wings only in cooperation mode. Up to four people can work together on a single computer, shielding each other and helping each other in combat. This also translates into the game itself - as long as any of the pilots are alive, they can resurrect the others. The whole was described by a specific graphic design maintained in an old-fashioned style. The ubiquitous pixels are therefore striking, but thanks to that the production retains a certain charm.
