A combination of an RPG, a card game and a roguelike production. Knock on the Coffin Lid allows us to embody a character who wakes up inside a coffin without any memories. We explore the fantasy world, make choices, learn about our destination and most of all participate in turn-based card battles.
Knock on the Coffin Lid is a mix of an RPG and a card game, enriched with elements borrowed from the roguelike genre. The game was developed by the independent studio RedBoon.
The gameplay in Knock on the Coffin Lid begins with the character selection, whom we meet when they are lying in the titular coffin. After a peculiar return to the world of the living, we begin an adventure leading through a world map crisscrossed with paths, on which numerous destinations have been arranged.
Which path we choose depends on us. We can try to take the path of least resistance or try to face bigger challenges (risking death and the need to start a fresh playthrough), tempted by the promise of gaining more valuable rewards. Given that the arrangement of these paths changes from game to game, each playthrough looks slightly different from the previous one.
On the way, we get to participate in various events, have conversations with the inhabitants of the land, and also make decisions that affect both our further fate and the future of the entire world around us. All of this was presented in a form reminiscent of the visual novel genre.
We regularly have to engage in duels with opponents in the game. The fights take place in turn-based mode. We watch the battlefield from the side, playing cards that summon allies to the battlefield and allow us to use various combat abilities.
As we progress, we expand the deck, and the key to success is to compose a set in which individual elements will complement each other. Additionally, over time we develop our character and unlock their subclasses, which allows us to better adapt the protagonist to our individual style of play.
In addition to the main campaign, the game offers custom modes, in which we can use modifiers that affect the gameplay in various ways.
Knock on the Coffin Lid transports us to the fantasy world of Midian and allows us to embody a character who wakes up in a coffin far from their home. From now on, their primary goal becomes unraveling the mystery of the past, as well as regaining the memories they have lost.
Given that our destiny is to ascend to the throne, in time we will become entangled in a much larger intrigue and make choices that will leave a mark on the future of the entire realm.
The graphic design of Knock on the Coffin Lid is maintained in a cartoon style.

NoobFeed: 78 / 100 by Ahnaf Tajwar
If you're a fan of roguelike deckbuilding games and enjoy a challenge, Knock on the Coffin Lid offers plenty of depth and replayability. Just be prepared for some rough edges. You might want to temper your expectations if you value narrative depth as much as gameplay. The game shines brightest when you're fully engaged in its strategic combat and experimentation, but it's not without its frustrations. Ultimately, it's a game worth playing if you're willing to push through the challenges and have a bit of patience.
