A post-apocalyptic role-playing game by TallTech Studio. It is set in a grim world, in which radiation is not the only threat — one has to be wary also of looter gangs and mutated animals. Mechanics-wise, Krai Mira is similar to classic Fallout games. The game utilizes an isometric view, and the feeling of déja vu is only strengthened by the mostly brown color palette.
Krai Mira is the debut work of the independent team at TallTech Studio. We are dealing with a representative of the cRPG genre inspired by the iconic, two-dimensional installments of the Fallout series.
Krai Mira presents a dark post-apocalyptic world, where every day brings a struggle for survival in an inhospitable environment. Not only ubiquitous radiation but also mutated animals and murderous gangs of looters pose a threat to humans. The player takes on the role of an inhabitant of a vast island, and the plot, abounding in interesting twists and references to other video games, is conveyed primarily in the form of dialogues with NPCs encountered on the way - some may even us during the adventure.
Krai Mira resembles very much the classic installments of the Fallout series. The action is presented in an isometric view, and the frugal colors , abundant mainly in shades of brown, create a suggestive atmosphere. The game is based on several pillars. The first of these is the exploration of various locations, which are selected through a two-dimensional map. The protagonist may end up in small settlements, as well as richer cities, marshes or sun-baked deserts. In addition, during the game, we perform various main and side tasks - in exchange for individual orders we receive experience points, nuts (which are the local currency), and sometimes also useful elements of equipment. If an item is considered unnecessary, we can always sell it to one of the traders.
What is interesting and important (especially in the initial phase of the game), the game world suffers from a shortage of appropriate armor. It is, therefore, possible for our character to don things like car tires - this is reflected in the statistics and provides basic protection. Our character is characterized by a set of features and skills that we develop after each level up.
An important element of the game is combat against enemies encountered during our travel. The battles are turn-based, and to eliminate the opponents we use not only firearms but also explosives, melee weapons and items found during the adventure. During the skirmishes, the player has the ability to target specific parts of the body, pointing them on a three-dimensional model of the enemy. It should be mentioned that various mini-games, such as dice or one-armed bandits, provide a certain escape from the post-apocalyptic realities.
Visuals of Krai Mira do not look particularly impressive - the game clearly refers to the two-dimensional installments of the Fallout series, and the modest budget also had impact on its appearance. However, the gameplay is accompanied by atmospheric music composed especially for its needs. It should also be mentioned that the developers managed to maintain low hardware requirements, so the smooth gameplay can be enjoyed even by owners of older PCs.
