A 2D roguelike game with logic elements, inspired by the simple, yet perfect Hoplite. In Lamp and Vamp, the player assumes the role of a vampire, who sets off to search for the stronghold of his dreams. The road to success is filled with dangers – on his journey, the main protagonist has to face the villagers, guards, and priests, who all are hostile towards bloodsuckers hanging about their neighborhood.
Lamp the Vamp, released on AND and iOS, is a roguelike game with a vampire in the lead role, created by the Paris-based GlobZ studio, known for Mucho Party and TwinSpin. The production, released in a model, was inspired by another excellent representative of this genre - Hoplite.
In Lamp and Vamp, you take control of a vampire who is looking for a castle of his dreams. The way to the destination isn't easy, though - in order to make a dream come true, the hero has to complete a number of levels, located in a world that is not very favorable to blood drinkers. To achieve success, our vampire will have to do his best.
The gameplay in Lamp the Vamp is about traversing procedurally generated levels. On each of them, the player tries to reach a safe place before they lose all their life energy - in Lamp and Vamp, the coffin plays the role of a shelter. The task is disturbed by guards and other hostile units (e.g. priests) walking around, equipped with weapons and lamps that illuminate the immediate surroundings. The gameplay is divided into turns.
Life energy is lost not only in direct combat but also by staying in the places illuminated by lamps. The situation can, of course, be improved by attacking opponents and drinking their blood, although it is usually too risky to make up for losses. To drink blood, we have to attack our target from hiding (e.g. by staying in shadows). This becomes a real challenge once we start encountering more enemies in levels.
From time to time, the player gets the opportunity to improve their statistics, as well as vampire skills (e.g. transformation into a bat, allowing to jump over several fields, or disappearance into a fog, neutralizing the negative impact of light on the vampire's health). It is worth mentioning that the use of the latter involves the loss of a certain number of life energy points.
Lamp and Vamp offers attractive, but simple 2D graphics.
