A puzzle game based on cult productions such as Portal and The Talos Principle. At Lightmatter, we solve puzzles that involve manipulating light while avoiding with deadly shadows.
Lightmatter is a puzzle game developed by independent Danish studio Tunnel Vision Games. The game, inspired by The Talos Principle, was born as a free student project titled See You On The Other Side, which not only quickly gained publicity among gamers, but also received an award for the most innovative game at the Casual Connect conference in 2012. Due to the game's potential, six of its creators decided to start their own business and transform it into a commercial title.
The action of Lightmatter takes place in an alternative reality in which Lightmatter Technologies has managed to develop photon technology as an extremely efficient and renewable energy source. During the game we play as the character invited to its first presentation. As it turns out, the shadows, in which the company headquarters is bathed are deadly, absorbing all organic matter. Our protégé has to fight for survival and listen to the comments of Virgil, the head of Lightmatter Technologies, who observes him.
In Lightmatter the action is shown from FPP. As it is the case with the Portal series, we solve more and more complicated logic and environmental puzzles. Brain teasers can be used to illuminate a specific part of a location or to move a photon beam from point A to B (for example, to activate a selected device). It is worth ing to avoid with surfaces covered by shadows, as it will result in immediate death; however, shadows can be jumped over.
The visuals of Lightmatter are likeable. Developers decided to use the cel-shading technique and limited colors palette, thanks to which the whole thing resembles Frank Miller's comic books. It is worth mentioning separately that Virgil was provided voice by David Bateson, known for his role as Agent 47 in the Hitman series.
