Mechanics

The games included in the Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection make use of the top-down perspective, their gameplay consisting of two layers. In the first we directly control Lan, traversing the current areas, talking to NPCs, purchasing items and accepting quests. The second layer is set in the network, which we explore as MegaMan.EXE. Our virtual protagonist must traverse narrow, branching paths, fighting viruses and other threats.

Combat takes place on square-gridded arenas, divided into two halves, one for MegaMan.EXE and one for the enemies. The protagonist's primary weapon is his iconic Mega Buster. He can also use a variety of chips providing him with different combat skills, the roster of which expands with our progress. The key to success is using attacks the enemies are weak to and chaining them into deadly combos.

Technical aspects

The games included in the Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection were revamped visually, their graphics smoothed out and adjusted to high resolutions. Nevertheless, the player can also enable the original visuals. A music player was also implemented into the game, containing the complete soundtracks from all the games, as well as an extensive gallery consisting of over a thousand concept sketches and official art.
