The plot is about the conflict between the factions and each of them received 10 own missions in the campaign. The distinguishing feature is the possibility of conducting war simultaneously on three independent levels: the surface of the planet, in its orbit and under its surface.
Within a classic-RTS game, Metal Fatigue introduced the concepts of 3 simultaneous playfields (orbit, surface, underground), and gigantic robots that are built from 20 unique arms and legs that made for over 6000 body configurations.
