Mirror is a role-playing erotic game with match-3 puzzle game, narrative visual novel and RPG elements. It is a debut of Kagami Works studio, and the game quickly became the most popular and best rated representative of this type of games on Steam.
Mirror is more than a single story, it's a collection of short stories in fantasy climates, learned through a magical mirror. The stories focus on the fate of women in different situations. We meet, among others, a dark elf with Robin Hood aspirations, a Chinese zombie waiting for the return (read: reincarnation) of her beloved, and an ancient Japanese woman who has moved to modern times. Each of these stories, while obviously centered on romance plots, is distinctive in theme and atmosphere, with the game not shying away from heavily controversial erotica.
The gameplay in Mirror is based on the rules typical for the genre, among them the HuniePop series. We fight duels, which take place on a board filled with four types of gems: physical or magical attacks, anger and healing. Our task is to combine at least three elements of the same type to reduce the opponent's life points to zero in the end. The game rewards us for longer combos by, among others, creating special gems with more powerful effects and... damaging heroines' clothes.
Gameplay is varied by special abilities of the characters and the fact that each of them has different strengths and weaknesses. For winning we receive money depending on our actions during the fight, which allows us to buy upgrades helpful in future battles (also in other acts than the current one).
Apart from that, Mirror contains story sequences in the style of visual novels, albeit often with a strongly erotic undertone. The game is non-linear, and the decisions made during the experience will affect the ending of the protagonist's story.
Mirror is made up of many separate acts telling different stories, but over time we also gain access to a challenge mode.
Following the convention of visual novel (and eroge) games, Mirror features 2D graphics inspired by Japanese comics and animated character sprites. It presents a high quality by the standards of the genre and is complemented by music, which includes separate tracks for each of the stories told. In addition, the game includes Japanese dubbing for each of the characters.
