Monster Rancher Battle Card: Episode II is a spin-off of the Monster Rancher series and a continuation of the card game that appeared on Game Boy Color. The title was developed by Tecmo (now Koei Tecmo).
In Monster Rancher Battle Card: Episode II the action takes place in the universe created for the Monster Rancher series. Children who can't train monsters and put them out to fight in the arena decide to take matters into their own hands and create a card game based on similar rules. Battle Cards, because this is the name of their work, quickly attracts the attention of adults, and over time even official tournaments are held. During the game we take on the role of a player whose friend - Colt - after receiving his own collection of cards is transferred to a fantasy land called Monster Paradise. We have to collect all the cards again and save our friend.
The pillar of Monster Rancher Battle Card: Episode II's gameplay are turn-based duels with other Battle Cards players. In total, we have fifty cards at our disposal - three of them correspond to monsters put up for combat, the remaining ones are used to perform attacks, the creatures, or defend (effective when the opponent decides to go on the offensive). Individual attacks require a certain amount of energy called GUTS, which is obtained by sacrificing the cards from our hand - it is worth ing that we can discard all five cards assigned to us in a given round in order to generate the most of it, but then we will be completely defenseless.
We get new cards both by winning subsequent duels and by importing data from CDs. We are talking about the game's data disc, as well as other game released on PlayStation 1, and even CD-ROMs containing music or PC games.
In addition to the story mode, Monster Rancher Battle Card: Episode II also features a multiplayer variant of the game, in which we can challenge another player to a duel.
Monster Rancher Battle Card: Episode II features an extensive but intuitive interface. The fun is enriched by spectacular animations of attacks.
