Moonscars is a metroidvania action platform game set in a dark fantasy world. It was developed by Black Mermaid, an indie studio, and published by Humble Games.
We play as Grey Irma, a clay warrior who has one goal - she wants to find the Sculptor and reveal the secret of her existence. During her journey, she encounters many enemies as well as other beings searching for truth and purpose in these dark and dangerous realities.
The game is a side-scroller, in which we move on two-dimensional platforms in a non-linear world. We fight with numerous enemies, using sword, spells and unique special weapons. Along with the progress we also gain new skills useful during battles. The developers focused on a high level of difficulty, assuming that the player will die often and the trial and error method will lead him to success.
The game features dark pixel art graphics and dynamic animations.

GameSpew: 7 / 10 by Richard Seagrave
Whether you’re into challenging Soulslikes or sprawling Metroidvanias, there’s a lot to like about Moonscars. Its atmosphere is thick thanks to its moody visuals and soundtrack, while its moment-to-moment gameplay is utterly engrossing once it has its hooks in you. If you’re up to the task and can accept that the experience won’t always feel fair, this is a game well worth sinking some time into.

Moonscars is a dark and punchy 2D action adventure that tweaks the Soulslike formula just enough to make it worth jumping into yet another entry in this most overstuffed of genres. The combat here is super slick stuff that's meticulously animated through the game's exquisite pixel art style, there are a ton of cool skills and weapons to get your hands on, and the world and its enemies are thoroughly well-designed. It's a shame, then, that this Switch port currently suffers from fairly consistent frame rate issues, because beyond a few difficulty issues here and there, it's pretty hard to find fault with what Black Mermaid has served up. Let's hope this one gets a performance patch for those stutters.

Moonscars is a standout example of what a 2D souls-like should be. From its beautifully atmospheric world, exceptional animations, to its fluid and gratifying combat, makes Moonscars an absolute pleasure to play. A best in class 2D souls-like.
