A tactical RPG with turn-based combat set in the popular universe of Warhammer. The game is a debut project of the Canadian studio Rogue Factor, founded by veterans of the video game industry. This title is based on a classic tabletop battle game Mordheim, which, in contrast to most of the games set in this universe, did not feature grand battles but small clashes of individual units.
Mordheim: City of the Damned is a classic RPG with turn-based combat, set in a popular fantasy universe of Warhammer. The game was developed by French company Focus Home Interactive and Rogue Factor studio. This title was based on a classic tabletop game called Mordheim, first published in 1999, which featured a story set 500 years before the main plot of Warhammer. Unlike many tabletop battle games from this universe, Mordheim did not focus on large-scale battles, but on clashes of individual units, each with their own, separate statictics. The creators of the virtual adaptation of that system made sure to make fans feel at home, adapting most of the original rules.
The story takes you into the titular city of Mordheim, which, after getting hit by a comet, becomes a fighting ground for multiple groups and factions. Players can one of the several organizations that made an appearance in the 1999 original, such as Skaven or the Empire’s mercenaries. You command a group of units, and move them from one district to another, while doing missions and fighting many dangers. In reward for your actions you receive new equipment and experience, which increases the strength of your men and gives them new combat skills.
Battles are turn-based and take place in 3D locations. Bear in mind that Mordheim is a cruel place, so any unit that falls in battle is gone forever. If you want to win, you should apply suitable tactics and consider not only your opponents’ skills, but also the landscape – layout of streets, nearby buildings, etc.
It is worth mentioning that apart from a single player campaign, consisting of many missions, the developers provided multiplayer experience with several different play modes.
