A historical spin-off to the Mount & Blade series, developed in cooperation by three team: the Russian Snowberry Connection, Ukrainian Sich Studio, and the creators of the franchise, TaleWorlds Entertainment. Mount & Blade: With Fire and Sword is set in Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth during the 17th century, drawing inspiration from the works of a Polish novelist, Henryk Sienkiewicz.
Mount & Blade: With Fire and Sword is a special edition of the well-known game Mount & Blade, released in Poland in 2008. Three companies are responsible for the creation of the new part, devoted to the 17th century history of Poland: Russian studio Snowberry Connection, Ukrainian Sich Studio and Turkish developer TaleWorlds Entertainment (creator of the original).
The action of the game takes us to the middle of the 17th century to the territory of the former Republic of Poland. During the party we watch scenes from Henryk Sienkiewicz's novels (Flood, Fire and Sword) and Jerzy Hoffman's films. The situation in Europe is tense. To fight for domination in the region, the greatest powers face each other, i.e. a strong, but declining Republic of both Nations, the growing power of the tsarist Russia, modern and thirsty Sweden, unbridled Cossack Ukraine and the Crimean Chanat - the enemy of Christian Europe.
The player takes on the role of the commander of the state fighting against many opponents. The gameplay system was based on the first Mount & Blade, although some obvious modifications were made. The most important aspects of the game are: an open world, a unique system of fighting with white and firearms, an interesting model of horse riding and rich references to the history of Poland and Sienkiewicz's works. During the fun we meet many independent heroes known from books and films. There are also specific weapons and military units (e.g. hussars).
The product's visuals are at a medium level, but provide nice looking models of soldiers and pleasing views and landscapes. The whole is complemented by a well composed soundtrack, which encourages to fight.
