Developed by Digital Dreams Entertainment, Mutant Football League is a spiritual successor to a 1993 game under the same title released on Sega Mega Drive. The nuclear war, which took place years before the events presented in the game, has led to the extinction of the majority of human population.
Mutant Football League for PC, PS4 and XONE is an arcade sports game depicting a discipline that is a parody of the American football. The game is a spiritual successor to the 1993’s 16-bit Sega Mega Drive game of the same title. This project has been developed by Digital Dreams Entertainment along with Michael Mendheim – the father of the original game.
The action takes place at an unspecified time in the future, many years after a nuclear war led to the extinction of the majority of the human race. What is worse, the cataclysm has caused dead bodies to rise from their graves, demons to leave their underground lairs, and living creatures to mutate.
In this post-apocalyptic world, however, the inhabitants of our planet did not quit on team sports. They were somewhat changed, and the most popular among them is the titular Mutant Football League.
Mutant Football League allows players to participate in arcade matches of a violent sport, which is a parody of the American football. On the field, playing against each other one can observe 2 teams comprising of 7 creatures of different sizes and abilities. Among them, there are the titular mutants, aliens, animated skeletons, demons, and battle droids. In total, the game features 30 teams, each with unique players.
During the game, the team selected by a player has to win the football season comprising of 13 matches. As the game is very violent, most of the teams do not live to see the finals. Players can use i.a. knuckle-dusters, bats, war-axes, chainsaws, and even grenades. Also, the stadiums themselves are filled with deadly traps, such as mines, lava pools, toxic clouds, and thin ice, which can break under the players’ feet. To top it all, the game introduces a dynamic weather system, featuring e.g. thunderstorms and rains so acidic they can melt even the strongest piece of armor.
Players can help each other by performing some dirty tricks, such as bribing the referee. Moreover, our team features football stars with numerous special abilities.
An additional feature of Mutant Football League is the ability to draft an entire team from scratch, choose its name and create all the players.
