A classic visual novel adventure, a prelude to Muv-Luv Alternative, which presents a completely new story and characters. Players take on the role of the test pilot of a new generation of experimental models of mosses built to repel invasions of aliens, who have been effectively taking control of the Earth for several decades.
Muv-Luv Alternative: Total Eclipse for PC, PS3 and X360 is a visual novel adventure game. Its action was set in an alternative universe, in which the Earth was invaded and since the 70s of the 20th century, humanity has been unsuccessfully fighting the invaders with the use of advanced technology and humanoid mechs. Muv-Luv Alternative: Total Eclipse is the responsibility of the Japanese studio âge, being a spin-off to the Muv-Luv series and a prequel to Muv-Luv Alternative, originally released in 2006. Its script was based on a series of books under the same title, which were also adapted in 2012 in the form of an anime series. The game features the same storyline as in the novels and animation, and an original finale of the whole story.
Since its inception, the Muv-Luv series has seen a number of comic-book, novelized and animated spin-offs. What's more, thanks to its success in Japan, the series is also responsible for popularizing the post-apocalyptic and military themes among comic-book and anime creators. Hajime Isayama, the author of the Attack on Titan manga, took direct inspiration from the series.
The story presented in Muv-Luv Alternative: Total Eclipse begins in 2001, a few years before the events with Muv-Luv Alternative. The story focuses on soldiers and pilots participating in a special United Nations research project called Prominence. Its aim is to build and test a new generation of mechs designed to battle and defeat the alien invaders called BETA, against which humanity has been fighting, and losing, for almost 30 years. The operation is conducted in secret in the American military base Yukon in Alaska. The main character of the game is a talented US Air Force pilot of japanese descent, Yuuya Bridges. The protagonist becomes part of an international team, which has to face various challenges posed by their superiors, untrustworthy allied nations, and eventually prepare for the fight against the BETA.
Muv-Luv Alternative: Total Eclipse is a classic visual novel. The game was therefore deprived of any arcade or logic game elements. The player's role is to read the subsequent pieces of narrative and to make choices in dialogues at certain moments of play.
All dialogue lines were recorded by the actors we heard in the anime series.
