My Chinese Coach is another educational game that belongs to My Coach series, developed and released by Ubisoft company. Apart from other language learning games, like My French Coach and My Spanish Coach, the series also includes a vocabulary expanding program (My Word Coach), an aid in losing a few pounds (My Health Coach: Weight Management) or quitting smoking (My Stop Smoking Coach with Allen Carr). This game, in turn, comes as an aid for those who strive to learn the difficult Chinese language.
The program teaches through fun, therefore lessons are set in different parts of China – from Beijing through countryside. This way you not only get to know new words and phrases but also learn about the culture. If you happen to forget a word or need a quick translation, you can use the in-built dictionary, which contains over 12 thousand words in Mandarin Chinese and hundreds of most common expressions (e.g. greetings and farewells).
My Chinese Coach uses the portable console’s microphone to record what you say and compare your pronunciation with a native speaker’s. Ubisoft also prepared a method for learning the Chinese alphabet – using the console’s stylus you can follow on-screen animations showing how to write a given symbol.
My Chinese Coach also features mini-games (12 in total) characteristic of the series, in which you can test what you have learned this far. In contrast to other Ubisoft’s language learning programs My Chinese Coach does not offer variable proficiency levels.
