Near Death for PC is an adventure action game focusing on survival aspects. The production was developed by Orthogonal Games – the authors of The Novelist.
Plot
In Near Death you assume the role of a woman whose plane crashes near an abandoned research station in Antarctica. To make matters worse, the accident takes place in the middle of a blizzard, with the temperature oscillating around -70 Celsius degrees. With no hope of finding help quickly, the heroine needs to find a way of surviving and getting out of this place.
Mechanics
Published on PC, Near Death is an action adventure game in which the whole virtual environment constantly threatens the protagonist. Just a few minutes in an open space can end up in the heroine’s death, so staying alive is not easy. To survive, you need to restore the station to operation and find out why it has been abandoned.
In Near Death the action is observed through the heroine’s eyes. The whole campaign takes place at night, which, combined with the blizzard, causes serious problems with visibility. Many elements of the base are frozen and it is necessary to find sources of heat in order to melt it and warm up the heroine.
The title features a dynamic weather system with constantly changing weather conditions, for example the power and direction of wind. It also simulates changes of temperature and the way it influences the environment. Arcade aspects are also important – the player needs to learn how to move quickly through the environment and how to cope with a number of threats posed by malfunctions and damage of the station’s elements.
