NEO Scavenger, released on PC, AND and iOS, is a survival strategy with turn-based gameplay. The game was developed by Blue Bottle Games studio.
Plot
NEO Scavenger takes place in the near future, in a post-apocalyptic world where almost all cities have been turned into ruins. The majority of humanity has been torn apart by supernatural beings from nightmares and legends that for an unknown reason have appeared on Earth. The survivors took refuge in a few metropolises that were turned into large fortresses. Others try to survive in small settlements where a few wrong decisions can lead to extermination.
At the beginning of the campaign, our character wakes up from a cryogenic sleep in an underground laboratory without ing who they are or how they got here in this place. Our task is to survive long enough to discover the truth about ourselves as well as about what exactly led to the apocalypse.
Mechanics
After starting NEO Scavenger, we need to create our character by selecting their gender, skills and flaws. The game has a sandbox structure, offering full freedom of choice and direction of exploration. It also has an extensive storyline. The world is shown in the form of a map covered with hexagonal fields, and the whole game takes place in turns. Our character has no knowledge about this world, so traveling to new territories is always associated with high risk.
NEO Scavenger focuses on survival elements and requires us to make difficult decisions each turn. Players must collect food, protect their characters from cold and diseases, and explore the world in search of valuable items. The fight also takes place in a turn-based system and offers a wide variety of actions as well as options for intimidation and placing traps. The game also simulates the way the human body works realistically - every wound can be fatal, especially if we do not treat it fast enough to avoid getting an infection. Diseases and hypothermia are equally dangerous. What is more, each death is permanent and forces you to start the game anew.
NEO Scavenger also includes a realistic inventory system strongly limiting the number of items carried by the player and forcing us to use a variety of bags and backpacks. We can also use crafting, hacking, tracking and hunting systems, and the ability to hide from monsters and other humans plays a key role in surviving. The behavior of all creatures and people is controlled by an extensive artificial intelligence, which can not only analyze the situation and make the right decisions but also simulates the mental state and morale.
