The gameplay in Nobunaga's Ambition takes place on a two-dimensional tactical map showing seventeen zones in central Japan. The players' task is to obtain wealth and resources, build a thriving economy, maintain high morale of their subjects and field an invincible army - all in order to face the neighboring clans that threaten their interests. The game takes place in a turn-based system - this applies both to tactical map games, where each turn corresponds to one season of the year, as well as to clashes with the opponent's forces when individual rounds are the equivalent of single days. Victory is possible in several ways, including forcing an adversary to retreat or destroying their command center.
Visuals of Nobunaga's Ambition do not differ much from the original. Therefore, the whole thing is minimalistic, focusing only on gameplay qualities, so the title is intended primarily for fans of the genre and retro climates. The game is available only in Japanese and English.
