The fifth expansion for the 4X turn based strategy Old World, focused on the topic of court intrigues. Behind the Throne offers new mechanics like having subordinates manage towns. It also features famous historical characters and introduces many brand new world events.
Old World: Behind the Throne is an expansion for the turn-based strategy game released in 2021 called Old World. The authors of the base version of the game, the independent studio Mohawk Games, are behind the development of this DLC.
The list of new features introduced in Old World: Behind the Throne begins with previously unavailable mechanics. The so-called Rising Stars are powerful figures who, although not leaders, can influence the course of events, causing both positive and negative effects. The great viziers, on the other hand, are characters to whom we can entrust control over our cities, so they can start managing them. It is worth keeping an eye on them, however, so they don't try to seize full power at the least expected moment.
The expansion offers the possibility of managing the ruler's stress by participating in various games (we must be careful not to allow him to be completely absorbed in revelry). We can also take part in new political eras (from civil wars, through times of corruption and decadence, ending with periods of great reforms).
The add-on brings a number of historical figures, such as Alcibiades from Athens, Harpagus from Akkad, Bardesanes from Assyria and Avicenna from Persia. It also introduces a number of new projects and improvements, such as estates and slums, as well as over 350 political events, focusing on court intrigues and frauds.
Similar to the base version of the game, in Old World: Behind the Throne we can play both solo and in multiplayer mode, over the Internet or locally.
Old World: Behind the Throne is a non-standalone DLC, so it requires the base game Old World to run.
