Omega Strike, released on PC, PS4 and XONE, is a two-dimensional action game, belonging to the metroidvania sub-genre. The game has a vast, open world and allows you to control one of several different heroes. The game was developed by Woblyware (known from League of Evil).
Dr. Omega and his mutant legions seek to gain power over the world. Only a few brave heroes stand up against them.
The action in Omega Strike is observed from a side perspective. During the game, we control one of the three characters (each of them has access to different skills and weapons), but we can freely switch between them. The gameplay focuses on exploring vast, open and varied levels, finding hidden treasures and fighting enemies there are dozens of their variants - including several powerful bosses). As the game progresses, we develop skills and weapons.
Omega Strike has a single player mode only.
Omega Strike has a two-dimensional, old-school graphic design in pixelart style. The graphics are very colorful and make a rather positive impression. Noteworthy are the beautiful and highly diversified projects of individual locations.

Omega Strike is a fun and enjoyable little 2D Metroidvania with some side-scrolling shooter sensibilities. It doesn't do anything particularly new or interesting – and its ‘unique' character-swapping concept was done a lot better by Broforce – but if you're looking for a modern tribute to Metal Slug that's fun and challenging in a very familiar way, then Omega Strike is likely to scratch that common itch. Just keep those expectations in check as this isn't the most original or exciting example the genre has to offer.

In the end, developer Woblyware has created a casual and enjoyable Metroidvania game in Omega Strike. My only complaint was that it was over a bit too soon for my taste, but I guess that's a good sign of a great game. Fans of the genre should definitely play this one, since Doctor Omega needs to be stopped and you have a right to have a lot of fun!

It doesn’t do much to shake things up or even offer a unique take on the formula, but Woblyware managed to provide what’s easily one of their best experiences to date, and it was one that I feel is worth a look if you liked any of their other titles or just want a new metroidvania to play.
