Order of Battle: Red Star is an add-on to the 2015 turn-based strategy game Order of Battle: World War II. The game takes the players to several new war theatres: we get the opportunity to conduct battles with the Red Army, which took place in 1938-1941. The title was developed by the devs of the original game, The Aristocrats. The publisher was Slitherine.

Plot

The campaign in Order of Battle: Red Star begins shortly before the outbreak of World War II, during the Russian-Japanese border conflicts taking place in Manchuria. Then we have the opportunity to take part in the invasion of Poland, the war with Finland and the defense of Russia against German aggression.

Mechanics

The gameplay in Order of Battle: Red Star is no different than what we know from the base game. We are still dealing with a classic turn-based strategy game, in which we control troops on a map divided into hexes. The expansion introduces a number of new units to the game - such as BT-7A and KV-1 m1940 tanks or R-10 and Su-2 tactical bombers.

During the campaign, we take part in many clashes known from the pages of history textbooks, including Battle of Lake Khasan (July 9 - August 11, 1938), Battle of Grodno (September 1939), Battle of Smolensk (July and August 1941) and Operation Typhoon (Battle of Moscow at the turn of 1941-1942).

Game modes

Order of Battle: Red Star can be played both solo or with others. The game offers a new story campaign, as well as units and maps for multiplayer mode. Just like in the base game, we can play in a four-person hot seat mode or PBEM++ module. There are several options to choose from, such as last man standing, competition or co-op.

Technical aspects

Order of Battle: Red Star does not introduce any significant changes in visuals of the base game. It is worth noting, that this is not a stand-alone expansion - it requires the base version of Order of Battle: World War II to work.
