Futuristic 3D shooter with isometric view. Players take control of a ship flying to the top of the screen and their goal is to eliminate emerging opponents and survive their attacks.
Developed by Taito, the game is a three-dimensional shooter, in which the ship we control moves towards the upper edge of the screen. The title was first published on arcade machines in 1996. This is the second installment of the Ray series, which presents events from a slightly different perspective than its predecessor, RayForce.
Earth's civilization is on the verge of extinction as a result of a lost war with rebellious colonies from various regions of the cosmos. Ships are sent to the Blue Planet to complete the work of destruction. Earth's last hope is the combat ship "R-Gray", which was constructed out of pieces of thirteen hostile machines. Equipped with powerful weapons, it sets off to meet the enemy army, and its aim is to attack the command center of the rebels, Secilia.
RayStorm is a typical representative of the shoot'em up genre. Players take control of a manoeuvrable, multi-weapon spacecraft and use it to eliminate enemies they encounter and the bosses waiting for them at the end of each level. The creators prepared three types of ships, each of which is equipped with slightly different special abilities. To eliminate enemies, players can use laser rifles, homing missiles, and a powerful attack of enormous power when a special bar is charged.
The port prepared by the creators contains not only the original game mode, but also a module dedicated to console owners. What distinguishes it from the original is improved graphics, higher difficulty level, new enemy models and slightly changed boss behaviour. For completion of any of these modes players unlock additional modules, in which they must complete the game at the controls of a particular ship or can choose any level to play through.
RayStorm is a three-dimensional shoot'em up, in which all models of ships and surroundings were made in 3D. The creators focused on futuristic stylistics and science fiction themes, which is visible, among others, in the design of ships and scenery.
