Selma and the Wisp for PC is an original platform game, enhanced with elements taken from logic games. The game was developed by Toucan Studio, an independent Polish team based in Gdansk.

Plot

The story focuses on the titular hero – Selma. The girl, being a witness to horrible events which has taken place in her house, decides to hide in her wardrobe. Surprisingly, she discovers a ageway to an eerie, gloomy world. The further details of the story are unveiled in the course the gameplay, while the players fight through difficult levels, full of hazards awaiting to interrupt our journey.

Mechanics

Selma and the Wisp is a two dimensional side-scroller. The players control two characters at the same time – Selma, and her guide, a levitating wisp i.e. St. Elmo's fire. Both heroes traverse dangerous levels taken straight from worst nightmares.

To get to the end of a level in one piece, we need to jump over chasms, avoid widespread traps, and solve various environmental puzzles. Thankfully, the girl’s companion lights the way, and collects thrown around lights, increasing his basic power. The game is noted for its high difficulty level – we have to deal with enemy creatures, protruding spikes, or pressure-sensitive trapdoors.

Technical Aspects

Selma and the Wisp for PC is characteristic for its spare, albeit atmospheric, two-dimensional visuals. The gloomy feel is escalated thanks to the original soundtrack, available as a separate record.
