Serious Sam VR: The Last Hope is a spin-off of the series of dynamic and very brutal FPP shooters. The spin-off was created for virtual reality sets like Oculus Rift and HTC Vive and it was released on PC by the creators of all main installments of the series, Croatian studio CroTeam. The title was published by Devolver Digital which took the publishing rights to the series from its previous owner, Take 2 Interactive.
Plot
Serious Sam VR for PC takes place during the beginning of the great war with the forces of evil Mental, the main antagonist of all installments of the series. The evildoer intends to break the resistance of nations by gradually destroying ancient temples and other important places of cult. The resistance is led by the fearless leader of Earth Defense Forces, Sam “Serious” Stone, who travels by using the star cruiser BC Saratoga and faces the invaders. He becomes the titular last hope of the citizens of galaxy.
Mechanics
The general gameplay mechanics in Serious Sam VR for PC are similar to ones in all main installments of the series. The title is a dynamic, first-person shooter focused mostly on fast action and brutal methods of enemy elimination. Similarly as in previous games, the title lacks cutscenes or scripted sequences known from many modern shooters like Battlefield. When on the ship, the protagonist can select destinations and then he immediately enters the battlefield where he does what he can best.
During missions “Serious” Sam faces countless hordes of enemies among which there are both creatures from previous entries in the series and completely new ones. Additionally, each level of the game ends with a challenging boss fight. The game has large arsenal of deadly weapons thanks to which one can eliminate enemies in many brutal and spectacular ways. Sam also has armor which can be additionally upgraded and equipped with useful power-ups.
Game modes
In difference to previous full-fledged installments of Serious Sam series, this title offers only singleplayer mode.
Technical aspects
Serious Sam VR: The Last Hope for PC uses the next generation of Serious Engine and it has typical for the series, colorful and very impressive graphics. Thanks to the for virtual reality sets the title delivers completely new gameplay experiences unavailable in traditional installments of the series.
