Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux is a remake of Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey, a game that was released in 2009 for Nintendo DS. Just like the original game, it was developed by Atlus. Developers implemented some audiovisual tweaks and changes (improved facial expressions, dialogues are now fully voiced). interface and gameplay mechanics were also improved.
Shin Megami Tensei: Deep Strange Journey for 3DS is a remake of Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey that was released in 2009 for Nintendo DS. Like the original game, the remake was developed by Atlus, a studio known for many other games like Etrian Odyssey or Catherine. Developers introduced some tweaks and improvements in the remake, such as better visuals (due to the fact that 3DS has more power), better facial expressions, fully voiced dialogues, and new pieces of music. interface was also improved and now we can save our game anytime we want to.
Moreover, never before seen types of demons were added to the game along with a new hero, Alex. Alex is a mysterious girl who attacks our protagonist as we explore Schwarzwelt. Meeting her can eventually lead to a completely new game ending.
Shin Megami Tensei: Deep Strange Journey comes with three difficulty levels for all kinds of players, from newbies to veterans who mastered the game.
Shin Megami Tensei: Deep Strange Journey for 3DS tells the story of an anomaly that appeared on the South Pole. A black hole, known as Schwarzwelt, is in fact a portal to a realm of demons that can destroy the Earth. The UN almost instantly instituted an organization known as Schwarzwelt Investigation Unit that would manage the situation. A specially trained unit was sent to the location and our hero is a part of it. Our job is to not only explore the demon world, but also stop the invasion before it happens.
Shin Megami Tensei: Deep Strange Journey for 3DS is a dungeon crawler, a type of game where we explore all kinds of dungeons and fight with the encountered enemies, or capture them to fight on our side. Our hero is equipped wit ha special suit called Demonica suit. It allows him to scan the areas and unlock preveiously unavailable ages. Combat is turn-based, and our hero can be accompanied by three demons at a time.
We can recruit those demons by bribing them or properly talking with them. We can mix them in order to get a more powerful one, just like in other installments of the series. Of course, it wouldn’t be a Shin Megami Tensei without Jack Frost. We will encounter over three hundred types of demons during our adventures. The game uses creatrures from all kinds of mythologies, but most of them come from Christian beliefs. It creates a unique, a bit iconoclastic mix that is one of the hallmarks of Atlus’ games.
