Showa American Story is an action-RPG. The game is set in an unusual alternate version of the 1980s, in which the United States has been dominated economically and culturally by Japan.
Showa American Story is an action RPG in postapocalyptic world. The game was developed by Chinese studio NEKCOM Games, known from the DYING horror series.
The action of the game is set in the 80s of the last century (the Japan's Showa Era is the period referring to the reign of Emperor Hirohito, lasting from 1926 to 1989). Several decades earlier, Japan began its economic and cultural colonization of the United States, buying up most of the local businesses.
The campaign begins ten years after the so-called Incident, which brought hordes of zombies and other monsters to the US. The player takes on the role of a mysteriously resurrected girl named Choko, who travels across post-apocalyptic America in an RV, learning the stories of surviving people.
Showa American Story is an action RPG, so we spend most of our time fighting hordes of enemies using a strongly arcade skirmish system. In the battles we use both firearms and cold weapons. The game offers a large selection of weapons, including many unusual toys, such as a large drill, as well as a wide range of attacks and special techniques.
As befits an RPG, the key role is played by improving the character's statistics and unlocking new skills. Various mini-games add diversity to the gameplay.
Showa American Story features a single player mode only.
The game has a fully 3D graphics, which main strength is its unusual vision of the world, combining a post-apocalyptic version of the American 1980s with strong elements of Japanese culture.
