Silpheed: The Lost Planet is an extremely uncomplicated shooter, played in a futuristic environment. This title in many ways resembles such series as Gradius or Iridion. Our task is only to eliminate enemy units appearing on the screen. For this purpose we use a perfectly armoured and armed spacecraft. The player does not have to worry about anything else. It is therefore necessary to concentrate exclusively on staying alive. The action is shown in isometric projection, so the game is played in a two-dimensional environment. The player-controlled ship is located at the bottom of the screen and we move upwards. Just like in classic shooters, you cannot rotate the view. The production of this game is the responsibility of a Japanese studio called Treasure, which also prepared such games as Ikaruga or Gunstar Heroes.

The player has a dozen or so different levels to beat. Subsequent stages differ only in appearance. We move both in space and above the surfaces of various planets. For obvious reasons, however, this does not have a big impact on the game, because we are actually only dealing with the elimination of targets in the air. The fact that at the end of each level you have to deal with a boss should not be a big surprise either. These opponents have been developed to a very large extent. Sometimes it happens that the boss occupies practically the entire upper part of the screen. We have to overcome, among other things, big robots or overgrown spiders.

The player is not allowed to exchange a ship assigned by the game. The equipment selection option appears. This is done before the start of each stage. Moreover, the equipment shall be selected separately for each wing of the vessel. In addition, further equipment options must be unlocked. The list of available enemies includes a vulcan cannon, rocket launchers or objects firing several different laser beams at the same time. There are 3 different difficulty levels for less experienced players. The game also rewards the elimination of enemies from as short a distance as possible. This is of course risky, but it allows you to score more points. Unfortunately, Silpheed does not have any multiplayer modes.
