Mechanics

Sonic Colours Ultimate is based on the version of the game released for the Nintendo Wii console. This is a hybrid of a 2D and 3D platformer, in which, depending on the situation, we observe the action from the side or from behind the protagonist. Eggman's Park plays the role of a hub, from which we get to the surfaces of subsequent planets, transformed into places of entertainment for the visitors. There are seven levels to visit on each of them; the last one is an arena where we fight a boss who guards the access to the energy source that powers a given part of the park.

The game is very dynamic. During the course of the game we dash ahead at a breathtaking speed, jumping on platforms and avoiding traps and terrain obstacles, breaking through various barriers, as well as eliminating opponents who stand in our way. The creatures (Wisps) that we release give the protagonist various abilities. Among them we can find a temporary boost for Sonic, the ability to turn into a laser and bounce off the walls, the ability to "drill" into soft ground, a powerful jump to an incredible height or even the ability to ram everything he encounters on his way. Our actions are constantly evaluated, and the score visible in the summary displayed after completing a level informs us how we did on that level.

In this remaster a new power was introduced, which allows Sonic to turn into a kind of ghost and penetrate selected terrain obstacles. In addition, the game includes some extres based on the film Sonic the Hedgehog, led by a skin for the protagonist.

Game modes

In Sonic Colours Ultimate you can play solo or in local multiplayer mode. Besides, the game features online rankings where we can show off our achievements. This remaster was also enriched with a special mode, Rival Rush, where players take part in races against Metal Sonic.

Technical aspects

Sonic Colours Ultimate features colourful graphics kept in a cartoon style. Compared to the original, the whole thing has been given a facelift to meet the standards of 2021.
