A tactical RPG developed by the creators of the Styx series. The game is based on the 1989 tabletop game Space Hulk. During the game, the players can control the Blood Angels chapter of the Space Marines or the Genestealer xenos.
Space Hulk: Tactics is another game developed by the French Cyanide Studio known for creating such series as Blood Bowl and Styx. The game was published on PC, XONE and PS4 by Focus Home Interactive – a publisher with whom the aforementioned developer was in continuous cooperation since the release of the 2011's A Game of Thrones: Genesis.
The game is set in the iconic Warhammer 40,000 universe and is based on the 1989's tabletop game Space Hulk. The story in Space Hulk: Tactics is divided into two parts: in the first one, players control a Space Marine unit called Blood Angels that have to deal with dangerous Genestealers. The second part shows the battle from the perspective of the aforementioned creatures.
Space Hulk: Tactics is a tactical RPG, in which the developers tried to translate the gameplay mechanics introduced by the tabletop original. This is not a direct copy, however, as gameplay is enriched by the card system. Using cards, players create their squad before battles – select characters and powers, that can greatly influence the outcome of the battle. Moreover, during the turn-based battles, one uses cards to trigger Marines' and Genestealers' special abilities.
Apart from the extensive story campaign, developers have prepared a number of attractions for multiplayer fans. The game features five playable factions: Genestealers, and four Space Marine Units – Blood Angels, Space Wolves, Ultramarines and Dark Angels.
An interesting feature involves creating your own maps using an intuitive editor. You can wage battles in the locations you designed, with opponents controlled either by the AI or other players. The maps you create can also be shared online. Moreover, you can maps designed by other players.
