A Polish mechanic simulator set in outer space. Players must move around in zero gravity or on planetary surfaces, repairing space vehicles and exchanging faulty components.
Space Mechanic Simulator is one of the mechanic simulators published by PlayWay, a Polish studio also known for the Car Mechanic Simulator series. It's the first major game of the Warsaw-based team Rapid Deer Games.
The game is heavily reminiscent of Car Mechanic Simulator. Though the scenery is completely different, the core gameplay loop is mostly the same. During each mission we must locate the malfunctioning component of the machine. We'll need to unscrew the cover and disconnect wires to reach it. Once that's done, we swap it for a working part instead and move on to the next task. The gameplay is made easier through various means, such as highlighting interactable objects.
Unlike the series by Red Dot Games, this game is set in outer space, on planetary orbits and the surfaces of Mars and the Moon. When completing tasks in zero gravity, we play as an astronaut, moving around one of two available space stations. On the surface we play as a rover (which we can build ourselves), also used to repair bases, hangars and more.
The primary gameplay mode of Space Mechanic Simulator is the campaign consisting of subsequent missions. There's also something for more competitive players. The game doesn't feature multiplayer, but the Time Attack Mode times how long it takes us to repair and construct machines. We can then compare our results with those of other players.
Space Mechanic Simulator features appealing 3D visuals. The developers have tried to faithfully recreate all devices and machines, such as space shuttles. The in-game astronauts wear authentic spacesuits.
