A sequel to the logic puzzle game by Tiger Style, released for mobile devices in 2009. Spider: Rite of the Shrouded Moon features a brand new story, and it's set in the enormous Blackbird manor, built years ago by a secret society in order to execute a mysterious plan, of which no one knows anything now.
Spider: Rite of the Shrouded Moon is a puzzle game and the direct sequel to Spider: The Secret of Bryce Manor from 2009. The production has been developed by the Tiger Style studio, the same team that has designed the title’s predecessor.
The project tells a brand new story and knowledge of the first installment’s storyline is not required to enjoy the new Spider. The action of the game takes place in an impressively large mansion called Blackbird. The structure has been built many years ago by the of a secret organization, its construction was a necessary step on their way towards executing their incredibly mysterious plan, unknown even to family which currently inhabits the building. We, once again, take control of a small spider, who has to uncover the truth behind the suspicious activities of the human that surround him. Our hero will also, most certainly, hunt a few delicious insects along the way.
The basic gameplay mechanics have remained largely unchanged; during our playthrough we explore the location, solve puzzles and catch luxurious meals for our spider protagonist. The latter requires a lot of cunning; we use spider webs to catch our prey, which we need to spread such a way that we can catch the most impressive victims. Most of the surfaces in the game are flat, making it difficult to hook your web in an appropriate location; each mistake you make results in a loss of the priceless resource. Furthermore, some of the insects can defend themselves and we need to knock them out first or outsmart them in other ways, e.g. by using light to attract moths. The spider can also jump and it is necessary to carefully plan our every move.
Apart from the puzzle aspect, the storyline also plays a key role in the production. During exploration and hunts we can stumble across various clues and information, which will gradually uncover some of the script’s secrets. In comparison to the first installment, the game is significantly longer and offers a more complex story.

GameSpew: 7 / 10 by Graham Stephen
Played at the right time in the evening, you'll get the right mix of dark visuals blending in with the beautiful, contemplative soundtrack that accompanies the game… it makes being a little spider feel like an existential, out-of-body trip

The game is simple and fun and can pose a challenge to anyone who wants to find everything in the game. The developers had some really good ideas with the moon phases and to use real world time and weather. I think in the context of a more in-depth and purposeful game, that kind of feature would be distinctive and potent. Hopefully some other developers were paying attention.

Oh, and if, for some reason, you are scared of spiders, don’t worry. You can play as a walrus.
