Star Control: Origins

Mechanics

Similarly to previous entries in the series, Star Control: Origins for PC, PS4 and XONE features great freedom of exploration and a wide selection of methods of completing objectives. During the game the player is traveling through space, gathering resources and trading with other species. The player will also spend a lot of time fighting in space battles. They are fought at close distance and they’re based on naval battles. The game also features advanced adventure game traits, like conversations with other characters and diplomacy. It is also possible to upgrade and modify the ship. All of that takes place in a living universe, shaped by actions of the player and of the artificial intelligence.

Multiplayer is an additional attraction of the game. Up to eight players can participate in multiplayer games. The developers introduced many types of skirmishes, from the traditional ones known from Star Control II to new modes, inspired by MOBA genre.

Technical aspects

The game features fully three-dimensional graphics. The developers recreated the unusual style of the second game in the series. The title is powered by Nitrous engine created by Oxide studios. It provides high level of details and large scale of space battles.
